Document formats

Most documents on the register are available in Adobe^® PDF (portable document format) or Microsoft^® RTF (rich text format). Some documents are only available in RTF format. You need the appropriate software installed on your computer to view documents in these formats.

PDF documents

To view PDF documents, you must have Adobe^® Reader version 5.1 ^® or Adobe^® Acrobat version 5.0 ^® or a higher version of the reader installed on your computer. The Adobe^® Reader^® is free and may be obtained by clicking on the following graphic and following the download and installation instructions.

Some PDF documents have a digital signature applied to them. This means you can verify the authenticity of the document. For instructions on how to use digital signatures, go to the digital signatures page.

Printing using earlier versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0

To be able to print pdf documents from the register you need the latest version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can download the latest version of the Reader for free from the Adobe web site. If you don't have the latest version, you can print a pdf document as an 'image' as follows:
Choose File > Print, and then click Advanced.

Select 'Print as image'.

Click OK to close the Advance Print Setup dialog box, and then click OK.

RTF documents

To view or print RTF documents, you must have Microsoft^® Word^® or the Microsoft^® Word Viewer^®, which is available for free download at http://www.microsoft.com/office/000/viewers.htm

If an RTF document is very large, the ACT Parliamentary Counsel's Office (PCO) will compress the file and make it available in a Zip archive.

Zip archives

Zip archives are wrapper documents that contain 1 or more other files. The files in these archives have been compressed. If PCO considers an RTF document to be too large for convenient download, the document is wrapped in a Zip archive to decrease the download time.

There are many programs available on the internet for accessing Zip files. One of these programs is UltimateZip, which you can obtain for free from http://www.ultimatezip.com/.

Downloading documents

The easiest way to download a document is to right-click over the icon and select 'save target as', then select where you would like to save the document.

Opening documents

To open a document, double-click on the document icon.
